This programme is designed for students who want structured, expert-led preparation for the IB English B exam.

IB English B SL or HL students sitting the May or November exams

Students aiming to improve Paper 1 writing and Paper 2 reading and listening comprehension

Students who find Paper 2 question types like True/False + Justify or multi-select challenging, or who want to build listening confidence

Students predicted approximately 4–6 seeking structured support to improve

Students who benefit from small, focused groups with dedicated attention

This programme is designed for committed students ready to practise under exam conditions. If you're looking for passive revision, this may not be the right fit.

    • Practised time management with realistic exam simulations
    • Active preparation through timed writing drills and AI-powered daily practice
    • Personalised written feedback aligned to IB assessment criteria
    Common Pitfalls

Where Many IB English B Students Lose Marks

Understanding common areas of difficulty is the first step toward addressing them. These are the patterns we see most frequently among IB English B candidates.

    Text Type Conventions

Paper 1 requires students to produce a specific text type — such as a blog post, formal letter, opinion column, or speech — with the appropriate conventions, structure, and register. Many students lose marks not because of language errors, but because the text does not match the expected format and conventions.

    Register and Audience Awareness

The IB markscheme explicitly assesses whether the student has adopted the correct register for the intended audience. Writing a formal letter with informal tone, or addressing a speech without rhetorical awareness, are common reasons for lower scores in Criterion B (Message).

    Time Pressure in the Exam

Both Paper 1 and Paper 2 give students a limited window to complete all tasks. Without practised planning frameworks and time management strategies, students often submit incomplete writing responses or leave reading and listening comprehension questions unanswered.

    True/False + Justify Questions

The True/False with Justification format on Paper 2 is one of the most common sources of lost marks. Students must state the correct verdict AND provide a precise quotation from the text. Getting only one part right earns zero marks — yet many students give a verdict without quoting, or quote without a clear verdict.

    Conceptual Understanding Gaps

English B assesses conceptual understanding alongside language skills. Students who focus only on grammar and vocabulary often miss marks on questions requiring inference, tone analysis, or understanding of cultural context — especially at HL level.

    Inefficient Revision Habits

Many students revise by re-reading notes or vocabulary lists without actually practising under exam conditions. Effective preparation requires active, timed writing practice for Paper 1 and deliberate reading and listening strategy drills for Paper 2 — not passive review.

    5 Pillars

    What Students Will Work On

The programme is structured around five focused areas, each designed to address the specific demands of the IB English B exam.

    Paper 1 Writing Mastery

    • Analyse high-scoring model responses across IB text types
    • Practise core text types (blog, article, letter, speech, opinion column, and more)
    • Learn structure, register, and audience control for different communicative contexts
    • Complete timed writing drills under exam-like conditions

Paper 2 Reading & Listening Comprehension

    • Master the six reading question types: MCQ, multi-select, vocabulary match, short answer, pronoun reference, and True/False with Justification
    • Develop strategies for the hardest formats — True/False + Justify and multi-select — where partial answers cost marks
    • Build systematic text-scanning and evidence-location techniques under timed conditions
    • Practise listening comprehension with note-taking strategies and audio-pacing drills, adapted for SL and HL

    Exam Technique and Timing

    • Learn planning frameworks for efficient time use across Paper 1 and Paper 2
    • Practise under realistic time conditions for both writing and reading papers
    • Review common examiner-identified pitfalls for each paper
    • Apply markscheme-aligned checklists to self-assess writing and comprehension responses

    Targeted Language Refinement

    • Strengthen grammatical accuracy across key structures tested in English B
    • Activate high-utility vocabulary for common exam themes and conceptual understanding
    • Improve sentence complexity, cohesion, and idiomatic accuracy
    • Receive focused written feedback on language production
